Frequently Asked Questions
Is my text stored or sent to a server?
No. All text processing happens entirely within your browser. Your text is never transmitted to our servers or stored anywhere.
How do emoji count as characters?
Emojis may count as 1 or 2 characters depending on the platform. This tool counts each Unicode code point. Some platforms treat certain emojis (like flags or skin tone modifiers) as multiple characters.
What's the difference between with and without spaces?
The "without spaces" count removes all whitespace characters (spaces, tabs, line breaks) from the total. This is useful for platforms that have different character counting rules.
Why are social media limits important?
Each social platform has specific character limits for posts, captions, and descriptions. Exceeding these limits can result in truncated content or failed posts.
Can I count characters for SMS text messages?
Yes! Standard SMS messages are limited to 160 characters (GSM-7 encoding) or 70 characters (Unicode). Use the total character count and aim for under 160 characters for single SMS messages.
